Trees and Grasslands

The vegetation at Makapu'u Point is as varied as cactus and dried brush to thickets of trees and grasslands. Most of it gets little rain on this part of the island. In this photo the grass is relatively green (compared to the straw colored grasses that predominate) because the trees shelter it from the sun. I was drawn to this image by the arc of the branches and the way the light filtered through the trees. It is here that I photographed the small purple flower posted a several days ago.
