In Remembrance

In Remembrance of Those Who Fell

This photo offers a slice of the Hawaiian Vietnam War Memorial in Honolulu. Together with the Korean War Memorial next to it, those who have fallen in battle are remembered and honored for their sacrifice. Someone has left this cup with state flag and flowers in special remembrance.

While I was at the Memorial making pictures an elderly Hawaiian mother, dressed in a muu muu she had made herself, came to the memorial and left a lei and floral arrangement in her son's memory. As she was leaving she sought me out and we talked for a while. She told me in proud, loving words that caught in her throat just how beautiful her son was. He would have been 54 years old this year.
