boats and harbor

Dreamy Harbor Evenings

One of the places I like to visit with my camera is the harbor about two blocks from my home in Honolulu. Recently I have discovered the pleasures of creating images shortly after sundown when the sky still reflects the sun's colors and longer exposures are useful. This image was made July 6th near the spot where I made fireworks photos two nights before. Dark clouds were just beginning to come down from the Ko'olau Mountains toward the water front when I made this image. I was particularly drawn to the perspective evident in the line of boats and the converging line of clouds. Despite what looks like a bright sky, this image was actually made about a half hour after the sun had dropped below the horizon. The long exposure accounts for the light in the sky and reflected in the windows of a nearby hotel.
