![]() Bell and Striker The Byodo-In Temple is a Buddhist temple located in the Valley of the Temples in Kaneohe, Hawaii. It is modeled after a temple in Japan, and contains the largest carved Buddha made in the past 900 years. This image is a detail of the peace bell hanging in a free-standing structure near the entrance to the temple grounds. The bell has no gong. Instead the wooden striker is pulled away from the bell by means of a rope on the other end of the striker, then let go to swing back and hit the iron bell. The leather-covered striker and bell combine to make a deep, rich sound that reverberates throughout the temple grounds. Nestled up against the Ko'olau Mountains, the temple is one of the most peaceful settings on Oahu. ISO 100, 1/6s, f/4.0, 70mm of 70-300mm | |
