rainy morning

Looking toward Chinaman's Hat Island

Yesterday morning I drove from the sunny side of Oahu, where I live, to the windward side of the island only to run into rain as soon as I hit the mountains dividing the island. Undaunted, I drove towards Chinaman's Hat Island hoping to have a break in the clouds long enough to photograph the island. I stopped at a marina along the way and made some photos including this one, looking across the water to the island and the coastline near it. It was still raining, but the sun filtered through the clouds at the edge of the rocks, giving off a wonderful light that silhouetted the nearby landscape, including Chinaman's Hat Island.

It rained off and on all morning, but I was able to use available light to make images that are saturated with color due to the moisture, some of which I will post this week.

On another note, if you'll permit me to toot my own horn a bit, I am pleased that my recent photo entitled 'Zen of Smooth Stones' posted here on July 29th. was entered in dpc challenge's weekly contest and earned an honorable mention based upon voters' opinions, placing 5th out of 328 photographs. If you haven't seen this image you can scroll through recent days or click here.
