Night Silhouettes: After the Fire

Sometimes it is fun simply to experiment with design and post-processing possibilities. In this case I wanted to create a moonlit image where lighting would create silhouettes of objects outdoors. I wanted an abstract effect, however, rather than a literal image. And after several photos of flowers the past few days, a departure from clean lines and traditional photography was my goal. This time I was interested in color and mood.

Here is a photo of the smokey remains of a recent fire in a wooded area, photographed in moonlight on a partly cloudy night. Some of the smoke is still visible in the night sky. Given the abstraction in this image, however, some of the subject matter may be hard to visualize. Can you see it, or is the photo too dark or vague?

For those who may be interested, the original unaltered photograph is posted here - a small flashlight, a marble leg of a contemporary dining room table, and a rug. I know this sort of thing won't appeal to everyone, but part of the fun of having your own blog is the freedom to try whatever interests you at the moment, whether it succeeds or falls flat. Any feedback you care to give, either way, is welcome.
