Scavenging Fading Flowers

Last Sunday, while shooting in Kapiolani Park I happened on a single small bee flitting from flower to flower. The pollen must not have been very good because he kept flying from flower to flower and bush to bush. It took perhaps four or five minutes, moving along a ten-foot-long row of bushes, to capture him. To make matters more difficult, the photo was shot through a chain link fence separating me from the bushes. To give you an idea of scale, each of the flowers is about the same diameter as a U.S. quarter. The flowers were well beyond peak condition, with brown spots and petals that were beginning to wilt, but that didn't seem to bother the bee.

Although a couple of areas in the photo look like a flash was used, in fact I did not use any artificial light. The photo was taken about twenty minutes before sundown and the sunlight was very warm.
