incense

Religion in Daily Life

This image is of a small shrine to a Buddhist god of compassion and benevolence located in the Chinatown Cultural Plaza. Each of the incense sticks has been offered with a small prayer by believers going about their day at the plaza. The Cultural Plaza is an interesting place in its own right. The plaza is a series of businesses surrounding an open courtyard used by local inhabitants. Last Saturday I encountered a man training a young boy in one of the many versions of martial arts, instructing him how to move his arms and pivot, while nearby a group of perhaps twenty-five boys performed similar exercises in unison.
