![]() Under Construction I'm not sure why I like this photo. There certainly are much more attractive things to photograph in Hawaii than the cement facade of a building under construction. Nevertheless, it appeals to me. Perhaps it is the lines on the building, or the symmetry of the window openings, or the balance between the white on the left and the shadow on the right, or the wooden braces in the windows. I don't know for sure, but I am sure it is the abstract nature of the image that I like. For today, at least, this is the most attractive, unattractive object in my inventory of photos. (By the way, the negative space at the left side of the photo is actually the blank facade of another building a block away that happens to line up with the left edge of the building under construction. When I lightened the photo to show details on the cement facade, faint details in the building in the background disappeared, giving this photo the unusual look of a building existing with no surroundings.)
