Along the Ala Wai Canal

I intentionally over-exposed this photo so as to bleach out the sky, water and the lighter buildings along the canal. I wanted to emphasize the tree-lined walk on the left side of the Ala Wai but leave enough detail in the background to provide a sense of the rising hill in the negative space behind the buildings. Sometimes it's just fun to experiment with an image.

(Note added: One of the interesting and educational things about posting photos on a weblog is the response - or nonresponse - one gets to a photo. Usually the photos I post receive a few comments. When they are well received perhaps 8 to 10 comments are left; when the photo is not well received perhaps 0 to 2 comments are left. But when a photo really bombs (as this one has) the silence is deafening as measured by the lack of favorable comments, and relatively critical comments are politely left for me. I appreciate all of the comments all of the time, but I particularly appreciate those brave souls willing to let me know that a particular photo just doesn't make it. From time to time I will add a photo like this one so I can get an education about what works and what doesn't and for the sheer fun of trying something a bit out of the box.)
