![]() Macro Glass The new lens is sharper than the kit lens I have been using until now. I made a close-up photo of some chrystal stemware in my home to emphasize the abstract nature of the glass, but also to test the clarity of the new L series lens I bought. A similar photo was made with my telephoto lens (which is better than the kit lens) a while back. While not an exact duplicate, the old photo shows the same glassware located in the same lighted hutch. The difference is pretty evident and the amount of processing done on the new photo was less than required for the earlier version. And at ISO 1600, it's a pretty significant difference. (There is still a bit of halo effect in this one which should be cleaned up, but since this photo was made just to test the lens, I haven't bothered. Also, some of the distortion seen in the glass comes from the fact that two glasses are lined up and curvature in the background glass is showing through the glass in the foreground. The brown color is so strong because a rather yellow light in a cream colored hutch is showing through relatively dark tinted glass.) ISO 1600, 1/6, f/22.0, e.c. 0, 40.0mm of 17-40mm | |
